CHORLEY GOLF CLUB ‘PACE OF PLAY’ CHARTER

In order to ensure the pace of play is acceptable,  Chorley Golf Club has implemented R&A’s principles of “Ready Golf”.  We therefore ask that ALL MEMBERS AND VISITORS adhere to the following guidelines at all times.

STATE YOUR INTENTION AND PLAY FIRST IF IT IS SAFE TO DO SO, when;

  • a player farther away faces a challenging shot and is taking time to assess their options
  • longer hitters are having to wait
  • the person with the honour is delayed in being ready to play
  • you are about to help someone to look for a lost ball. Play first, then look.
  • a person who has just played from a greenside bunker is still farthest from the hole but is delayed due to raking the bunker
  • another player’s ball has gone over the back of a green, even if they are furthest from the hole, and you are at the front of the green.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS IN ORDER TO SPEED UP PLAY

  • Leave your bag/trolley on the side of the green nearest to the next tee
  • Mark your score upon immediate arrival at the next tee, except for the first player to tee off, who should mark their card immediately after teeing off
  • If in any doubt as to whether your shot will be found, play a provisional ball
  • If you have lost a clear hole on the group in front, or you are searching for a lost ball, and the group behind is waiting, call through at the first available opportunity
  • Prepare to play your shot as you are waiting for others to play

When Ready Golf is being encouraged, players have to act sensibly to ensure that playing out of turn does not endanger other players.

Ready Golf is not appropriate in match play due to the strategy involved between opponents and the need to have a set method for determining which player plays first.  Although in a friendly match you can always agree with your opponent(s) to play Ready Golf.
